A wildfire has gut down 18 grass-thatched houses last week in Donguop, headquarters of Ameth-Aguok County located east of Abyei Town.

County executive director confirmed the incident.

Malek Biem said the wildfire spread to the headquarters from Mabek village and destroyed 18 huts out of 24.

County authorities blamed absence of their staff for the destruction of buildings made of local materials.

On his part caretaker county commissioner confirmed the blaze too, saying there was nothing to prevent wildfire.

Hon. Nyok Deng Rou promised to send back his staff after flood water receded.

He said the county authorities would assess damages to raise resources to rebuild destroyed houses.
