Health department encourages women for natural breastfeeding

The health department in Abyei Administrative Area is encouraging women to stick to natural breastfeeding for child’s healthy growth.

Head of expanded program on immunization  Youssif Lal Ayom said on Thursday that mothers should breastfeed their children for not less than two years.

While Save the Children International urges mothers to care for natural breastfeeding to prevent childhood sicknesses.

Its health manager Dr. Jomama One Jomama says child breastfeeding for six months without water and other nutrients allows natural growth and prevent diseases. He said there many fatal childhood sicknesses such as Malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea, and measles.

World breastfeeding week is celebrated annually between 1-7th of August. This year the theme is “Step up breastfeeding: educate and support.”
