The director general at the administration of agriculture, forestry, animal resources and fisheries  in Abyei administrative area expressed concern about cultivation season in the region.

Dr. Rou Minyiel Rou said they have received minimum requests for land plowing this season compared to last year.

He said that insecurity and climate change have contributed to delay of farming this year.

Moreover, he urges farmers to prepare for the second cultivation season and diversify crops to secure food for the next year.

Agriculture is the main activity for people in Abyei who traditionally depend on sorghum for food. Cultivation season often begins in May.
