Abyei Community Organization in Juba on Saturday last week organized a fundraising event.
According to the community Deputy Chairperson, Mayath Michar the total amount comprising cash and pledges is 4, 184, 420 South Sudanese Pounds and 12, 650 US Dollars.
The organization collected two million, six hundred and seventy-four thousand, four hundred and twenty (2,674,420) South Sudanese Pounds and five thousand and one hundred (5,100) US Dollars in cash during the event. It then recorded one million five hundred and ten thousand (1,510,000) South Sudanese Pounds, seven thousand five hundred and fifty (7,550) US Dollars as pledges.
However, the organizers said that they expected to receive more money. Mr. Michar said the money would be used to buy basic needs for the internally displaced persons affected by the conflict in Abyei Administrative Area which began on February 10th, 2022 in Agok.
In a statement posted on Facebook the community thanked its members and well-wishers who donated money and made the fundraising event successful.
Last week, co-chair of Abyei interim leadership council called for a peaceful solution for the conflict between Ngok and Twic communities.
Dr. Chol Deng Alak acknowledged that something had gone wrong between the two sisterly communities and must be corrected.
