The commander of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces in Majak Kol has called on communities in Abyei Administrative Area and of Twic County in Warrap State to stop fighting and embrace peaceful co-existence.
Major General Gabriel Chol Madol who oversees Agok where communal clashes broke out in February spoke to Abyei FM on Tuesday.
General Madol called on the youths from both communities to immediately end violence and implement the cessation of hostilities signed in Aweil last month. He confirmed that community groups in Twic county said they would stop attacking communities in Abyei Administrative Area.
This according to General Madol came during a meeting held in Twic County headquarters, Turalei. He said they have deployed forces in Mading-Jokthiang residential area and around Aneet Market in Agok Town.
Agok also known as Aneet and other areas are claimed from Abyei Administrative Area by Twic County of Warrap State.
In February, fighting involving armed youths from Twic County in Warrap State and local youths left more than twenty people dead in Agok Town. Thousands of families fled their homes as a result.
General Gabriel is calling on this population to return home.
