School registration for the academic year 2022/2023 began in Abyei administrative area on Monday.
Speaking to Abyei FM on Tuesday the headteacher of Abyei girls’ primary school said that registration of IDPs’ puils from Agok and other villages is the priority.
Bulabek Deng urged pupils residing in Abyei Town to report to school in order to establish the exact number of learners this year.
He believes that there are families displaced with their children from Agok and would be helpful to register them so that their number is identified.
The headteacher fears congestion in classes and lack of adequate teachers due to displacement caused by the conflict.
The director general of education office said that their plan for schools reopening has been changed by recent attacks on Agok.
John Ajang Kiir said they had anticipated some schools to reopen in Agok.
He advised parents to register their children at a nearby school and assured the public that if people return to Agok and surrounding villages, schools will be reopened, and learners will be sent there too.
