Ngok Dinka and Misseriya recommit to peaceful coexistence

Traditional leaders from Ngok Dinka and Misseriya recommitted to peaceful coexistence when they seasonally interact in the Abyei box.

This came in communiqué signed on the final day of the ” Joint Traditional Leaders’ Peace Conference” at the Imperial Golf Hotel in Entebbe, Uganda.

Some this agreement are; promote protection of women, children, property and livestock, support initiatives at governments level to find a solution to Abyei issue and call for the immediate release of the investigation report on the assassination of the Ngok Dinka Paramount chief Kuol Deng Kuol and 17 other Misseriya persons in May 2013 and referral of disagreement points to national governments mechanisms.

Next round of talks is expected before the report of UNISFA force commander to the UN security council on 15th October 2022.

UNISFA assured the two communities of it’s commitment to protection of civilians pursuant to its mandate under chapter seven.

The three days conference commenced on Tuesday with an aim to restore stability through community engagement.
