Church -based organization launches peace and reconciliation initiative between Ngok and Twic

The Catholic Church in Abyei administrative area has launched a peace and reconciliation initiative in Warrap State supported by Bishop Gassis Relief and Rescue Foundation.

It aimed at collecting suggestions from Ngok Dinka in Abyei and Twic Dinka in Twic county to convene a reconciliation and peaceful coexistence conference.

The priest of Our Lady of Annunciation Parish, Paul Okeny said the project kicked off in Twic county last week by listening to chiefs, youth and women about what can be done to build peace between the two communities.

He stated that conflict has halted the foundation’s activities of delivering assistance to the needy in some areas in Abyei and Twic.

Father Paul reveals that similar consultations will be held for Ngok Dinka next Saturday for chiefs, youth and women at the premises of women association in Abyei Town.

In a statement to Abyei FM on Tuesday Father Paul said that his initiative doesn’t look into root causes of the conflict in Aniet/Agok.

He said that the presidential committee led by the Vice President Hussein Abdulbaghi will take care of it.

In February, more than 20 people were killed and many others injured when armed youth believed to be from Twic county attacked Agok where thousands fled their homes.
