Abyei women demand accountability against suspects of recent communal violence

The women of Abyei are demanding that those involved in Agok attack should be investigated and held accountable.

This came during a meeting between Abyei women and investigation committee headed by South Sudan Vice President for Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbagi Akol on Wednesday.

According to the Vice President’s media office, the committee promised to address historical tensions, misconceptions and restore relations.

According to the statement, the committee is preparing the preliminary results of the investigations into the Agok events, which killed Tens people.

The statement says, “The women of Abyei welcomed with appreciation the process of dialogue and reconciliation between Twic and Ngok Dinka communities.”

The committee is expected to leave for Twic county and from there to the capital, Juba, to present the results of the investigations to President Kiir Mayardit.
