RA company workers in Abyei lay down tools over lack of employment privileges

Some of the RA company employees on strike at one of the gates. They blocked the entrance and denied entry to all who wanted to enter the UN compound.

Forty workers of RA company have been on a strike in Abyei Administrative Area since Monday this week. The employees stopped work to demand for employment benefits including medical allowances, leaves and after service benefits.

Garang Ador Chol is a member of the striking employees. He says their complaint reached the senior management of the company a month ago but no response. Garang further says they have also notified labour office about their demand.

RA operates in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei compound. It is UNISFA’s sub-contractor.

Garang says the only people allowed to move in and out of the UNISFA compound are peacekeeping soldiers.

Mayol Changath is the director of labor in Abyei Administrative Area. He says they have written some recommendations to RA company and the company has promised to respond to them soon.
