
The medical director of Doctors Without Borders has urged people to go for free HIV/AIDS test to control the spread of the disease.
Dr. Aristide Kengni spoke during the commemoration of World AIDS Day in Abyei Town on Wednesday. Dr. Kengni says there are HIV/AIDS infections being recorded in the hospital weekly.
He added that the organization will establish more test centers in the area are to be established next year.
For his part, the director general of health requested humanitarian organizations to support their administration with equipment and test facilities.
Kon Thon revealed that there are more than 140 cases of HIV/AIDS in the area. He called for concreted efforts to fight the virus.
The celebration includes voluntary testing of some attendees. The event was attended by officials from Abyei administration, locals, humanitarian organizations and UN agencies.
World AIDS Day is commemorated on 1st December every year.
