Payment of girls’ incentives begins in Warrap State

The payment of money to schoolgirls in primary and secondary schools kicked off in various schools in Warrap State’s capital on Tuesday.

The funds coming from the United Kingdom through Girls’ Education South Sudan is a support to help girls to continue with their education.

The minister of education in Warrap state, told Abyei FM that the financial assistance is a motivation for girls in education.

Kuot Deng Kuot indicated that eight counties in the state and Abyei Administrative Area have received a specific amount of the money.

“The payment of girls’ incentives started yesterday (Tuesday). The target number is 5000 schoolgirls in all counties plus Abyei administrative area. All committees were going to their centres to pay money to schoolgirls,” Kuot said.

Kuot advised parents or guardians to accompany their children to school for the payment.

” My message to citizens of Abyei, I want you to prepare your girls to go to their centres with her father or mothers,” He said.

Kuot expects that the incentives will arrive in Abyei Administrative Area on Wednesday.

Arop Mou who is the supervisor of GESS at Adventist Development and Relief Agency said they target more than 3000 schoolgirls.

The money is given to girls in upper primary school and secondary school.

A girl in primary five, six and seven, senior one, senior two and senior three gets 5600 South Sudanese Pounds while those in primary eight and senior four are receiving 8400 South Sudanese Pounds.
