Ngok Dinka paramount chief opens vacancies for female court members

The Paramount Chief of Ngok Dinka, Bulabek Deng Kuol has welcomed women to join traditional court in Abyei Administrative Area. Chief Kuol said this on Sunday during the closure of customary law review conference. 

One of the new customary recommendations states that there shall be a woman serving in the traditional court of Ngok Dinka.

Akuot Chol, a woman in Abyei expressed happiness for the decision. She recommended that the selection of the woman court member be based on qualifications. This is what women in Abyei have been pushing for since 2015.

If implemented, it will be the first time for a woman to sit among men and make on decisions in the court.
