Health authorities seized expired food commodities in Agok in Abyei Administrative Area on Thursday.
The items were got in shops in Aniet market during a search for expired commodities organized by office of public health in Rumamer county.
The Inspector of Public and Environmental Health in Agok, Dau Achuil Ayuel says the intention of the week long crackdown on expired goods is to protect consumers. He said the committee confiscated a number of goods including biscuits, tea leaves and beans. He added that these items will be burnt. Ayuel stated that a fine of 9000 SSP will be paid by those caught selling expired goods.
The Chairperson of Chamber of Commerce in Abyei Administrative Area, Chol Deng Chol welcomed the campaign. He attributed the presence of expired goods in the market to decline in purchase power and urged traders to report expired commodities to avoid legal action. .
