The President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir has paid a tribute to General Colin Powell, the United States Secretary of States.
In a press statement seen by Abyei FM, President Kiir said in general Powell’s death, South Sudan has lost one of its true friends. Kiir eulogized late Powell as a leader with incredible courage who served America and the world with utmost dedication. He said it was through General Powell’s effort and determination that the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed between Sudan People’s Liberation Movement and the then government of Sudan.
General Powell died from Covid-19 complications at the age of 84, according to media reports. He was the first black American to become U.S. secretary of state.
