Chiefs, women and youth from Alal and Ameth-Aguok counties in Abyei Administrative Area are attending a workshop on customary law.
The four-day workshop is organized with support from the International Organization for Migration and is facilitated by the area’s legal advisor, Justice Deng Biong Mijak. The event kicked off in Abyei Town on Wednesday.
Mijak said the objective of the workshop is to review and understand the community-accepted customary law for example marriage and divorce law and its application without contradicting the South Sudan’s constitution.
For his part, the Paramount Chief of Ngok Dinka, Bulabek Deng Kuol hope to implement the suggestions and views of the community. He added that there will be a conference during which the outcomes and recommendations from the workshop will be explained.
Similar workshop was held in Rumamer and Mijak counties last week.
