
Youth delegates from four counties in Abyei Administrative Area have elected new leadership for Abyei Youth Union on Saturday. The term of office is two years.
Mr. Chol Lual Miyen, Mr. Chan Chol Malek and Ms. Tereza Mayol have emerged as chairperson, speaker and rapporteur respectively.
Mr. Miyen won the elections after obtaining 88 votes against his opponent Mr. Juma Nyuat who got 17 votes. Mr. Nyuat conceded defeat after the results were announced and promised to support the newly-elected Abyei Youth Union (AYU) chairperson.
In his victory speech Mr. Miyen applauded all the delegates for the trust bestowed on him. He pledged to work hard to meet youth aspirations in Abyei Area.
The elections were held in Abyei Town at the end of a three-day convention in which essential documents including Youth Union General Rules were reviewed and passed.
The polls supervised by South Sudan National Youth Union delegation led by Chairperson, Mr. Gola Boyoi Gola, Abyei Youth Union steering committee and administration of education, information, culture, youth, and sports.
