Calm has returned to Mabok village in Abyei Administrative Area following the killing of two  unarmed men, aged 75 and 55 on Friday evening. According to locals, the civilians were attacked while sitting outside their huts in the village.

Speaking to Abyei FM, the Advisor on Security, Mr. Kelek Kon Lual says the attack on the village occurred at about five in the evening. He said three men were shot while sitting but the third person survived the incident.

Lual says he has reported the incident to authorities in Unity state where the attackers are thought to be from.

Unity State’s Peace Advisor, Stephen Salam says he is informed about the incident and added that he has directed Mayom County commissioner to investigate and find the location of the assailants.

In April 2020, armed men believed to be from Misseriya tribe of Sudan carried out an attack on Mabok resulting to the death of four people, abduction of a child and burning down of houses.
