Community police in Abyei Administrative Area are investigating a 19-year-old student on suspicion of terminating her four-month pregnancy.

The teenager was arrested on Wednesday after the body of a fetus was found under a tree in Juol-jok residential area in Agok.

The director of police in Rumamer county says the suspect is currently receiving treatment in MSF hospital.

Anyiel Agon Arop thanked juol-jok residents for cooperating with the police by reporting the case.

“Her family stopped her from going to school because they suspected that she was pregnant. So, she decided to go to nearby bush. She sat under a tree and abort the fetus,” the police officer said.

The police commander says that it is the first case they have registered this year. He advises parents to treat pregnant girls with respect and care.

“I would like to advise girls and mothers, if there is a girl who committed such a mistake do not treat her badly, she would think negatively because she is still a minor. You should advise her in a good way, because abortion might harm her if there is no close hospital,” he said.
