The national committee for the Abyei final status which arrived yesterday in Abyei met the chief administrator and executive council.
The delegation of six members is headed by the national minister of East African Affairs and the Deputy Chairman of the negotiation committee Hon. Deng Alor Kuol
The negotiation committee met the area executive council and area legislative council and the SPLM on Tuesday.
“The purpose of consultation is to share with this sector in the area and with the grassroots the issue…. or the approach the committee is going to adopt, and the issue the committee is going to raise and the principle on which the committee is going to engage Khartoum on discussing the implementation of the final status of the Abyei area,” Deng Biong Mijak, the spokesperson of the delegation explained the objectives of their three-day visit.
Mijak added that the proposal made by the committee is endorsed by most of the council members.
On her part, Nyanwut Miyen, the executive council spokesperson says they are happy for the coming of the committee.
“Now we want to reach to the final status such that we are able to achieve the goal of Abyei to be retransferred back to South Sudan,” Miyen says.
The deputy chairperson of the committee, Hon. Deng Alor Kuol expressed optimism about the final settlement of the Abyei issue.
