The Chief Administrator of Abyei Administrative Area, Gen. Kuol Deim Kuol has dismissed the Chief of Bongo Chiefdom, Nyol Paguot Deng.

In an administrative order issued on Thursday, the chief administrator removed Chief Deng and directed the chiefdom to choose a new traditional leader.

The order stated that chief Deng “poses a real security threat to the area.”

“The family of Paguot Deng Ayiei is hereby directed to appoint a capable new chief to lead Bongo chiefdom at this critical period in the history of the Abyei people,” the order says.

In response, Chief Deng rejected the dismissal, saying the chief administrator has no right to remove him from his position, affirming that he remains the chief of Bongo chiefdom.

“The chief can be dismissed by his clan members when they are unhappy with him, not the administrator like Kuol Deim to incite the chiefdom to remove their chief,” said Deng.
