Primary and secondary school teachers in Abyei Administrative Area are being trained on how to teach the South Sudan’s new education curriculum.
The workshop started in Abyei Girls’ Primary school on Tuesday with more than 50 teachers from schools in Alal county and Abyei municipality.
The Director-General of Education, Information, Culture, Youth, and Sports in Abyei, Mr. John Ajang Kiir said the training targets more than 500 teachers at various schools in Abyei. He urged teachers to attend it in order to acquire enough knowledge in interpreting and implementing the curriculum.
“We have received a delegation from ministry of general education, and education department who are going to train the teachers. I want to tell the teachers to be attentive to understand,” Kiir said.
Athiak Malek, a teacher at Abyei Girls’ Primary school says the training is “beneficial and good.” She stated that the new curriculum will enable pupils know the history of South Sudan and become role models and references to future generation.
