Abyei administration to launch Covid-19 vaccination on Wednesday

A vaccination of people against Covid-19 is expected to kick off in Abyei Administrative Area on Wednesday, official says. The official launch will be held at Ameth-beek hospital in Abyei town.

Last week, the area received 100 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from South Sudan. Abyei has been allocated 700 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines by South Sudan, more are yet to arrive, according to the  official.

The Acting Head of Health in Abyei Administrative Area, Hon. Nyanwut Miyen Kuol said health workers, government officials and elderly people with underlying health conditions were the target. She advised people to go for the vaccine for protection against Covid-19.

Abyei has 160 confirmed cases of Covid-19 including 11 deaths while South Sudan has 10,688 confirmed cases with 115 deaths.

Last week, a mass vaccination of people against the coronavirus using AstraZeneca vaccine began in the neighboring Warrap State’s capital, Kuajok with 100 people reached on the first day.

The Director General in the state ministry of health there, Dr. Barac Malith had warned against hesitancy to vaccines assuring people of its safety and benefits. The medic encouraged everyone to get the vaccine jab to end the pandemic.

As of 14 June 2021, over 2 billion doses of vaccine against Covid-19 have been administered globally while the total number of confirmed cases stands at 175,847,347 including 3,807,276 deaths, World Health Organization – WHO’s record shows.
