Abyei Administration and The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) have condemned in two separate press releases an attack on Donguop village on Sunday morning.

The administration described the attack as coward. It pointed fingers of accusation at Misseriya militia supported by Sudanese police guarding oil fields in Kec/Diffra.

According to the statement seen by Abyei FM, eleven people were killed, and seven others sustained injuries and are being nursed at MSF hospital in Agok.

The Administration urged UNISFA to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book. On its part, UNISFA said that attackers left before its forces arrived at the scene.

Meanwhile UNISFA has commenced a joint investigation into the circumstances and motives for the attack. UNISFA further called on the Governments of Sudan and South Sudan to provide full support for the implementation of its mandate and to facilitate UNISFA’s work to protect civilians in Abyei Area.

In a related development, Misseriya militia killed a 75-year-old man and injured another. The incident occurred on Friday the second day of Eid El Fitr in Wun Ameth village west of Abyei Town.
