The court of appeal for Greater Bahr el Ghazal located in Wau town, Western Bahr el Ghazal state has transferred two judges to Abyei Administrative Area, a statement seen by Abyei FM on Wednesday says.
The judges are Biar Matet Ayom, second grade judge and Rida Sebit Wani, first grade judge,
The acting president of the court, Justice Isaac Pur Majok says the transfer will be effective within two weeks starting from the day the order was issued.
“For the sake of work and based on the directives from the honourable chief justice, I Isaac Pur Majak, Acting President of Court of Appeal for Greater Bahr el Ghazal Circuit do hereby ordering this temporary transfer of the under mentioned judges from their present locations of work to new locations within the circuit with effect from 31/08/2020…..,” the statement reads in part.
Abyei FM contacted Judge Biar Matet Ayom and he confirmed the transfer saying, he is waiting for a means of transport to his new duty location.
“That is true……. for one week, I will be there,” he says.
Matet was working for Gogrial County court, Warrap state.
Abyei FM could not reach the other Judge Rida Sebit Wani.
People of Abyei have been appealing for more judges since last year. Currently, there is only one judge who shuttles between Abyei town and Agok to preside over cases that cannot be handled in customary courts.
Before the arrival of the first judge in 2016, suspects charged with major crimes for example murder were sent to Warrap state for trial.
