Food commodities are running out soon in Abiemnhom market in Ruweng Administrative Area. The head of Chamber of Commerce in the area, said on Tuesday that the remaining supply is too low to cover for more than a month. Bol Mijok Bol attributes the scarcity to bad road connecting the area to Aniet market in Agok.
According to Bol, the transportation of supplies stopped three weeks ago. He urges local authorities to repair the road before the situation worsens.
“The citizens are in need assistance with sorghum, but it is not there at all in the market. For someone to get a “malou” at 1,200 is very difficult. We appeal to authorities to prepare tractors for pulling vehicles,” Bol said.
Bol said traders cannot do anything to help. Due to shortage of supplies, prices of goods have increased. A 100 kg bag of sorghum is sold at about 36,000 South Sudanese pounds in Abiemnhom market.
Abyei FM could not reach county authorities for a response.
