UNISFA and Civil Society organisation meet to discuss COVID-19 pandemic

The Department of Civil Affairs and Abyei civil society organisation met on Sunday to discuss Coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting was held at Abyei Youth Union Center in Abyei town. Twenty-one representatives from twelve civil society groups attended the meeting.

During the meeting, UNISFA made presentations about Coronavirus disease including a number of global deaths and infections.

Some attendees expressed fear that business people and pastoralists may bring the disease from Sudan because of lack of control over Abyei’s borders.

Some participants placed responsibility of controlling borders movement and establishment of quarantine centers in Abyei Administrative Area on UNISFA.

UNISFA representative Mr. Juoshua Fada promised to forward suggestions from the meeting to their top leadership. He stressed the importance of the role of civil society in preventing the disease.
